Melissa Foulger

Melissa Foulger, Associate Artistic Director at 7 Stages, is a stage director and an educator with a B.A. in Theatre and a M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the George Washington University and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of Memphis. She worked for three years as a teacher in the public school setting, most notably at Duke Ellington School for the Arts in Washington, DC. Directing credits include Susan Miller’s My Left Breast, Caryl Churchill’s Far Away, Amy Wheeler’s Wizzer Pizzer, Caridad Svich’s Iphigenia Crash Land Falls on the Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart (a rave fable) (7 Stages); God is a Dyke and fume (Estrofest Productions); Why We Have A Body (Savage Tree Arts); Adoration (Actor’s Express), Psychopathia Sexualis (Georgia College & State University) and Heart.Beat., The Weird, Self Made and Da Tree Graces (Dad’s Garage). She is artistic liaison and co-curator of the Art Amok! late night art party series at 7 Stages. Ms. Foulger was a recipient of the TCG New Generations Program: Mentoring the Leaders of Tomorrow from 2002-2004 and has participated in both La Mama ETC’s International Directing Symposium held in Umbria, Italy and the Dah Teatar’s International School for Directors and Actors held in Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro. She was named one of the top-ten directors in Atlanta by the Sunday Paper in 2006 for her production of Far Away. She is a member of the Young Women's Task Force, a nationwide, diverse and inclusive grassroots movement dedicated to organizing younger women and their allies to take action on issues that matter most to them. By and for younger women, YWTF works both within and beyond the women’s movement, engaging all who are invested in advancing the rights of younger women.
