U.S. KOLTES PROJECT
09/05/2006 - 12/05/2010:
Bernard-Marie Koltes
Director: Various Artists
THE U.S. KOLTES PROJECT is a ten-year project established in order to translate and produce six of Koltès’ plays: In the Solitude of Cottonfields (Dans la Solitude des Champs de Coton), The Day of Murders in the History of Hamlet (Le Jour des Meurtres dans l’histoire d’Hamlet), Sallinger, The Night Just Before the Forests (La Nuit juste avant les Forêts), Tabataba and Quay West (Quai Ouest). These plays were chosen for their ability to address the human condition as well as the predicament we face as citizens of the United States and the world. Each play involves themes such as intense isolation, deal-making, senseless war, and misplaced national loyalty. Born in 1948 to a middle-class family, Bernard-Marie Koltès emerged as one of the most distinctive and important dramatic voices of the 1980s. His work, based in real-life problems, expresses the tragedy of being alone and of death. His writing style accents the dramatic tension and the lyricism of his plays. Beginning with the recent 2008 production of In the Solitude of Cottonfields, 7 Stages will present a world premier translation of each work every other year through 2016 filling each off year with residencies at national and international universities.

Sahr Ngaujah
This under ground hip hop dance party turned play is cutting edge and stands in the shadow of tragedies surrounding the diamond trade in Sierra Leone. It challenges directly, through its multimedia performance, our culture’s obsession with “bling”, extortion, and economic battles. Sahr Ngaujah, a successful Youth Ensemble of Atlanta alumni recently featured in the New York Times and currently acting on Broadway, brings his hit show to 7 Stages and features DJs from Amsterdam performing in the show as well as at post-show "Afterparties".

WATCH FOR MR. UNIVERSE IN OUR 2010/2011 SEASON.
==================================================
Imagine finding the most beautiful man in the world…
7 Stages’ revival of Jim Grimsley’s Mr. Universe tells the story of a hooker and two drag queens that find the perfect man (muscular, boyish, innocent and unable to speak) bleeding on a street corner in the French Quarter of New Orleans and decide to take him home. A dark comedy with sharp dialogue, Mr. Universe is a haunting, laugh riot with violent twists that will never disappoint.
First done at 7 Stages in 1987, Mr. Universe drew significant critical acclaim with Southline Theatre Magazine sighting it as “a unique fusion of the realistic and the symbolic”, Guide Magazine stating “No stage in Atlanta has guts like that!” and Creative Loafing touting it as “ a powerful evening of theater”.
