7 Stages offers real-life professional training in theatre production and theatre administration for emerging professionals ages
16 and up. Internships are unpaid, but many perks are available to the intern through 7 Stages, including complimentary theatre
tickets, invitation to special events and benefits, access to internationally renowned directors and actors, and opportunities
to pick up part-time hourly work if available or interested.
Most internships are 15 - 20 hours per week. Schedules are flexible, though certain production internship schedules must be
made to coincide with rehearsals and performances. Available internships are listed below. To arrange an interview, contact
Education Director Heidi Howard at 404-522-8602 or heidi@7stages.org.
Administrative Internships
Marketing and Public Relations
Intern will assist in focused areas of marketing and public relations, depending on experience and desired areas of growth.
Focused areas include media relations, community development, web development, graphic design, subscription fulfillment, and
group sales. All interns are involved with materials distribution and archive maintenance. Intern will be able to attend
monthly marketing workshops and roundtables with other Atlanta marketing professionals for further educational opportunities
and professional networking.
Intern will work directly with Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Joe Gfaller.
Special Events
Intern will aid in the planning and execution of key special events throughout the year, including opening nights, the Theatre
Aperitivo series, the Singles Night Friday series, and the Supper Club Series. In 2004, summer and fall interns will also
assist in the planning of 7 Stages' 25th Anniversary Birthday Party. In 2005, winter and spring interns will assist in the
planning of 7 Stages' benefit A Taste for Theatre.
Intern will function as a liaison to restaurants, caterers, entertainment, media, and board members as necessary for each event.
Intern will work closely with Managing Director Raye Varney, Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Joe Gfaller, and special event co-chairs from the 7 Stages Board of Directors and community at large.
Education
Intern will help to develop, market, and facilitate current education programming, including the student matinee series,
school workshop and residences, as well as colloquia for artists. All interns will also participate in long- and short-range
planning of the annual Youth Creates Summer Program. Intern may serve as a representative of the theatre at key educator, camp,
or college fairs.
Intern will work directly with Education Director Heidi Howard
and closely with Associate Artistic Director
Melissa Foulger.
Literary
Intern will assist in dramaturgical research on current season productions as well as catalogue, research, and participate
in the script reading process for possible future production options. Intern may also assist visiting playwrights in rehearsals
and workshop on an as-need basis.
Intern will work closely with Associate Artistic Director Melissa
Foulger, Literary Manager Steve Yockey, and Artistic Director Del Hamilton.
Production Internships
Production Apprentice
Apprentices shadow a member of the production, design, or technical team. Not all production staff members require apprentices
for all productions, so specific opportunities are determined on a show-by-show basis. Possibilities include playwriting,
directing, stage management, set design, costume design, lighting design, sound design, video design, and technical direction.
Acting
Acting interns research a specific role within a given production, attending all appropriate rehearsals, and have the
opportunity to therefore understudy a professional actor. No guarantees can be made as to understudies receiving performance
time, and the internship is only available for specific productions and does require an audition.
Intern will work closely with the production's director and the professional actor in the role. Acting internships are
available in the 2004-2005 season for Maria Kizito, Skinwalkers, A Number, and Wizzer Pizzer.
Technical crew
Interns are trained to crew or operate sound, light, or video during production. Areas of training include carpentry,
welding, properties shopping, properties construction, and board operation.
Intern will work closely with Technical Director
Mack Headrick and Stage Manager
Heidi Howard.
