Testify: Freedom In… is an immersive, community-centered experience presented by A Soul Sanctuary, where art becomes ritual and the audience becomes part of the communal offering. Blending live music, storytelling, movement, and sound, the experience invites participants to explore what freedom feels like within some of life’s difficult realities like grief, inequity, change, and more. Rather than a traditional performance, Testify: Freedom In… creates a shared space for reflection, release, and connection—guiding the collective through a journey that is both deeply personal and communal. Rooted in healing, creativity, and spiritual expression, this work reimagines how we gather, witness and transform our lives and our world together.

Poetic Licence – A Staged Reading

April 13, 2026 at 7:30 PM, Dutch playwright Frank Siera is bringing a staged reading of Poetic Licence to 7 Stages’ Mainstage.

This (probably) true story of British playwright Joe Orton and his partner Ken, who–in what might have been a psychotic episode–killed both Joe and himself; a play about playwrights and actors, about the difference between theatre and reality, about the difference between normalcy and dangerous absurdity, about homosexuality when it was considered both a crime and a mental illness, about what should or should not be normal, and the thin line between fiction and reality.

This staged reading includes a preshow introduction by playwright Frank Siera and 7 Stages Artistic Director Heidi S Howard, as well as a post-show Art of Activism dialogue centered on the boundaries of normalcy, questions of sanity and what is actually criminal behavior.

Content warning – descriptions of sexual violence and self harm.

Frank Siera is a Dutch playwright and stage director. He runs his own music theatre collective KASSETT, where he writes, directs and organises. Siera’s texts are typically inspired by a true story or legendary myth, philosophical in nature and written in a poetic and rhythmic style. Ever since he started writing, music has been an important influence, both in style and theme. In 2012, Siera graduated from the Dutch theatre academy in Maastricht with his own play SPRAAKWATER about the silent piano man who washed ashore in a British coastal town. SPRAAKWATER has since been translated and performed at the prestigious Festival D’Avignon in 2021, two different festivals in Brazil in 2022 and 2023 and tours throughout France, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. He wrote his first opera libretto RITRATTO for the renowned Dutch National Opera in 2020. RITRATTO was well-received with 5 stars by the BBC and nominated for an Edison, the Dutch equivalent of a Grammy award. His play SÂLT was performed in front of the Dutch King and Queen in 2023, at the well-known site specific theatre festival Oerol on the island of Terschelling. POETIC LICENCE, a play about British playwright Joe Orton and his partner Kenneth Halliwell, received rave reviews: “Frank Siera’s text plays a dark game with fiction and reality.” For 10 years, following his graduation in 2012, Siera collaborated with 7 Stages as a director and writing coach, in their yearly Dutch-American exchange and training program (Youth Creates and Bootcamp).

For the next few years and while in college, she continued her classical training in cello as well as developed skills in operatic singing. As a form of rebellion and after getting to play Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, she respectfully left the classical ladder, opting for Avant rock, jazz groups, and working with dancers and art galleries. As she unlearned her training, she retrained in the art of listening – enjoying the spontaneity of live performance. Deisha currently composes and performs with her group Flight of Swallows as well as the Atlanta Improvisor’s Orchestra, Musicians and Movers, lado, and sometimes simply solo under a bridge.

Scott Turner Schofield’s Becoming a Man in 127 Easy Steps

Special Film Screening – One day only!

March 15, 2026 at 7 Stages – 3:30 PM

Part comedy special, part oral history, and part love letter to becoming your true self, Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps chronicles two decades of Emmy-nominated creator/performer Scott Turner Schofield’s life as an out transgender man. With a knowing nod to the often-overlooked comedy of transitioning, the film reflects on the many layers of becoming oneself, exploring nuanced truths and breaking important new ground in trans representation.

Twice censored (so far) and arriving amid a cultural and legislative reckoning, the film resists simplification in what it explores, how it tells the story, and the form it takes. Instead, Schofield brings vulnerability, wit, and presence to the details of his own life, connecting the personal to the universal and reminding audiences of all we share.

Funny, profound, and fiercely honest, Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps celebrates complexity and invites viewers to consider, more deeply and compassionately, what becoming—and being—a man can mean.

December 11-28 at 7 Stages

Since 2017, Y’allmark has delighted Atlanta audiences with its clever, improvised spin on our favorite guilty pleasure, a made-for-TV holiday movie. This live stage show takes familiar seasonal tropes… think snow-covered small towns, surprise romances, and charming misunderstandings. Then hilariously reimagines them using audience suggestions. This show is equal parts homage and satire, performed by an all-star cast. Come see what all the cheer is about!

September 23, 2025 at 7 Stages

Doors – 6:30 PM, Stories – 7 PM

Remember the thrill of show-and-tell as a kid? We’re bringing it back—with a twist!

Grab an object that means something to you and get ready to tell us a 5-minute story. It could be your story’s star, a quirky sidekick, or just make a brief cameo—but it should hold a special place in your heart. Maybe it’s something that’s been with you forever, or maybe it’s brand new. The only rule? It matters to you.

No worries if your item is lost to time or too big to lug around (looking at you, childhood treehouse)—just bring a photo or paint us a vivid picture with your words!

Don’t have a story to share? No problem. Roll out those Kindergarten skills of curiosity and generosity and take on one of the most important roles of the evening: listener! Brush up on those listening ears—this time, you also get to judge. You (and the rest of the audience) will vote on whose story was the most compelling. The winner? They’ll walk away with bragging rights and a spot at the annual Show & Tell Showdown!

July 19, 2025 at 5 PM – FREE / donations encouraged!

7 Stages Mainstage

In the midst of darkness, we discover who we truly are. There is Another Way tells the story of a group of visionaries who refuse to surrender to violence and injustice, and in doing so show that another path is possible – for them, for us, and for all humanity. As we are all faced with essential questions about who we are, will we choose collective liberation, where the needs, rights, and safety of all are prioritized – in which our humanity comes first, knowing that no one is free until everyone is free.

Combatants for Peace, nominated for two Nobel Peace Prizes, is an extraordinary bi-national group of former enemy combatants – Israelis and Palestinians – working together during an ongoing armed conflict. Confronted with the devastation and escalating violence of October 7th and the war in Gaza, the very core of the movement faces great challenges in showing that there is another way. The first question they must answer relates to their own beliefs…is this possible?

F.PUNK JUNKIES

September 4-14, 2025 at 7 Stages

F.PUNK JUNKIES is a Woman-centered, Black and Brown Ensemble-driven dance theatre piece written and directed by Teo Castellanos. This work brings the company’s “AfroRican Punk” aesthetic to their storytelling, and digs deeply into our collective ancestral roots.

Six deities gather to share tales woven with energetic punk music and expressive movement: Stories of a guitar player at a crossroad, a greedy deceiver, a theatrical baseball ritual, a secret society of beautiful femmes, an encounter on a plastic beach, a prison break, and reunification in the mosh pit. They are adapted from Orisha Mythology and Caribbean folktales with modern flair.

Mr. Castellanos and Artistic Director Heid S. Howard began conversations about F.Punk Junkies in the pre-COVID times and are thrilled to revive the work collectively by designing a unique process for all to share in method and grow as artists, collaborators, and global community members. By inviting lead members of the original ensemble to create with local artists over a 3-week rehearsal process, the original production will take on a new story. A story that is formed from the dynamic Miami based origins mixed with the power of Atlanta artists, locals are invited to participate in the process. Not only will the Atlanta community see themselves on stage in a new light, but the unique collaboration and production will have a ripple effect of possibility well into the future.
