Art, Activism and Engagement Workshop
How do performance makers engage with issues of activism, equity, and social justice within the practice of making new work? What are useful approaches to engagement as part of the creative process?
Wednesday 16th, 10 am-1 pm at 7Stages.
A shared conversation and action-based workshop with Jessica Litwak, an award-winning playwright, director and international theatre practitioner for social change and community engagement and Heidi S Howard, Artistic Director of 7 Stages, a professional, non-profit theatre company devoted to engaging artists and audiences by focusing on the social, political, and spiritual values of contemporary culture. 7 Stages gives primary emphasis to international work and the support and development of new plays, new playwrights, and new methods of collaboration. Now in the 41st season, Heidi continues the legacy by nurturing the global center for vital conversations through collaborative performance while creating a brave space to connect everyday life to the creative process. Jessica, also an educator and drama therapist, is recognized across the globe for her articles and plays as well as her work with notable organizations such as HowlRound, LaMama, and Theatre Without Borders.
