2023 Essential Theatre Play Festival

Featuring the world premiere productions of the 2023 Essential Theatre Playwriting Award winner, The Manuscript by Matt Hoffman, and 2020 Co-Winner The Wishing Place by Beverly Austin, and presenting Hush Harbor Lab’s workshop reading of Yanni Stone and the Honey Pot Trap by Anterior Leverett, Carolyn Cook’s new play Walk With Me: Loving Steps on the Dementia Journey produced in partnership with Anne McSweeney and CEU Creations, and the Bare Essentials Play Reading Series.

Presented in partnership with Hush Harbor Lab, Atlanta’s Black Play Development Company.

About the Play: A comedy following writer Lena and her titular character Yanni Stone as Lena completes the daunting task of writing her first play all while navigating dating, sex, and virginity in modern day Atlanta, audiences had the chance to experience an earlier draft of during Synchronicity Theatre’s Stripped Bare Arts Incubator Series in April.

Loving Steps on the Dementia Journey by Carolyn Cook
Two nights only: August 30 and 31, 2023 at 7:30pm
In this autobiographical play, a woman sets out to meet her loved ones with dementia where they are — and returns with a guidebook for fellow travelers. Covering fifty years in twenty minutes, Walk With Me leads into a discussion about positive caregiving with social worker Anne McSweeney, owner of CEU Creations.
Join us for evening of warmth and discovery for families, health care professionals, and anyone whose life may be touched by dementia.
*Both evenings are eligible for CE credit for social workers, counselors, case managers, and nurses.
**Resource Fair precedes both performances starting at 6:30pm.**
